What is Impregnation?

There exist difficulties in conventional surface treatments when applied to porous or fibrous materials.Especially in wet processes, surface characteristics are often degraded when once permeated liquid migrate out from the porosity while the part is in use.
In these cases, the wet process can be applied, after, hardening of properly formulated resin or chemicals permeated into the part. That is, filling the porosity by impregnation process.
On the other hand, various kinds of function can be provided on the porous parts by impregnation process with properly formulated resin for the particular need.
For non-porous materials, the function can be provided on the parts, by first applying pretreatment such as spraying (such to contain porosity), anodizing, chemical conversion coating or etching etc., then impregnate the functional resin or chemicals.
